Unable to remove Bluetooth device AirPods Pro 2 on MacBook Air ?

Previously, I lost my AirPods Pro 2. The so-called location tracking didn’t work when I needed it the most—maybe because I was in a large shopping mall with a lot of people and a complex multi-floor environment.

So I enabled Lost Mode, but no one called me. I couldn’t retrieve them and had to give up.

I then planned to delete the paired record from my MacBook Air. That’s when things got strange: I could delete it at first, but shortly after, it reappeared. I deleted it again, restarted the system, and it came back right away—very frustrating.

Some people online claim that you need to remove the paired AirPods Pro 2 device from all devices under the same Apple ID account to truly remove it. I find that hard to believe, since I had already deleted the device from the Find My app.

After searching extensively online, I found the following method that works for now—though I’m not sure if the issue will return later:

# 0. Turn off Bluetooth # 1. Delete the following file sudo rm -f /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist # 2. Some suggest also deleting: sudo rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Bluetooth.*.plist # 3. Reboot the MacBook # 4. Turn on Bluetooth and connect to a Bluetooth device (e.g., a Bluetooth headset) # This will cause the system to regenerate the file: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist # 5. Check the file: plutil -p /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist # Or use the defaults command: defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist

Note: Do not try to create this file using /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print" /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist, or the result will be an XML file, which is not suitable.
